Even though it is uncertain whether or not witchcraft is real to certain people or if the symptoms of witchcraft attacks and actions were based on hysteria, it has led to similar religious views that Massachusetts has today. Ever since the Salem Witch Trials has taken place, many beliefs similar to Witchcraft still exists. An example is Wicca. Wicca is more based on taking appreciation for nature and is based on old Christian values and is also loosely based on old Witch customs too. It is not an evil way of life and is considered a religion as opposed to witchcraft which is more of a lifestyle. Similar ways of thinking are found all throughout Massachusetts and Salem, especially, is considered a Witch city. (What) Also, in these cases, the elders relied mostly on religion as evidence to proving the accused guilty or not guilty. If they could not recite any part of the Bible, the Commandments, etc. they were found guilty. Now in the court room, there has to be tangible evidence and there has to be no reasonable doubt for someone to be found guilty. Also, in the court room today, we do not rush the death penalty and do lots of investigating to make sure death is the correct punishment. The community was quick to rush the convicted to death or torture to get rid of the witches in their community. There is also a right we have as humans for no cruel and unusual punishment; the convicted witches were usually tortured.
